Every week you receive emails from CRI that include stories of schools being used to indoctrinate students, legislation that strips us of our precious freedom, and judicial attacks on our inalienable rights. It’s easy to be discouraged by these assaults on our freedom. But there is always hope and it is incumbent upon us to prepare our future leaders to counter these attacks on our way of life.
City on the Hill Youth Leadership Conference is the ideal place for young people to learn about their government and how they can be responsible citizens. During the week-long conference, participants aged 14-18 become mock legislators. Each student is assigned an actual bill being debated in the current legislative session and must shepherd it through the City Legislature. In addition to learning about the legislative process and political leadership, students participate in daily Bible studies and worldview training courses. Student visit the capitol to meet with lawmakers and discuss current legislation impacting California families and on their last day of the conference, debate their bills on the floors of the Assembly and the Senate.
“I attended City on the Hill when I was a teen and it was truly the best preparation for my current position as the legislative liaison for Capitol Resource Family Impact,” explained Meredith Turney, who attended City twice and has served as a staff member five times. “The students who attend City will receive training directly from policy makers and government leaders. Freshmen legislators don’t have the kind of knowledge and training City graduates come away with.”
All students are encouraged to attend, regardless of their career aspirations. City provides leadership training that will be used in many different areas of life. After attending City, each student will be a better informed citizen, which is crucial to the preservation of our republic.
